Gulliver's Travels ( A Movie Review)

Another one of Jack Black’s iconic film, The Gulliver’s Travels, an adaptation of Jonathan Swift’s classic adventure piece. This movie is remarkably awesome in terms of the wide array of very experienced and phenomenal actors and actresses. Of course, the iconic and humor branded, Jack Black (Lemuel Gulliver in the movie) along with co-stars, Amanda Peet (Darcy Silverman), Emily Blunt (Princess Mary), Jason Segel (Horatio) and many more. The plot and the characters develop in a way that is very fortunate and expectant. For me, it can be very cliché. The mood however, surprised me. It somehow brought me waves of emotions, as if I was in the movie too. The vision of Lilliput from the tainted ink of Swift’s novel is painted to life. Thus, this masterpiece has effectively put an impact as to how we perceive Lilliput.

If you’re looking for a great rendition of Swift’s notable and significant work in this movie, well you may be disappointed. It’s not bad but in some literary aspects, it definitely lacks profoundness. This movie passes as a family movie you can sit along and laugh out to. It’s satirical and comical. Almost as if it was a story of their own, departing from its orginal context. An inspiration. More or less, just a fun, laidback and modernized version of Swift’s work. One scene actually derived from the novel was when Gulliver put out the flames by urinating all over the place. Not bad, eh? But to be honest this movie reverberates a very joyous mood, integrates the morality of the main character, has a happy ending and just a very light hearted movie. You can never go wrong with this film. It’s fun and adventurous and engraved with a lesson in the end. It’s very explorative not in a sense that it is deep and embedded with an unfathomless interpretation. It is simple and easy going. Not Oscar Award winning but I can assure you, you’ll surely enjoy it. If you’re looking for something very rich yet something very easy and facile, then this movie is your soulmate.

The final verdict: ★★★☆☆ 3/5 stars
